An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye surgeries. An optometrist, also known as an eye doctor, is your primary eye care practitioner for routine vision care: full eye exams and vision tests. It’s best to see an optometrist if you need a new glasses or contact lens prescription.

Our local optometrists can also treat common eye conditions, such as dry eyes, glaucoma, and eye infections, and provide eye care for pre- and post-eye surgery.

If you’re looking for an optometrist in Kitsilano, Vancouver, book an eye exam or a store visit with us online.

An optometrist is your primary eye care practitioner for full eye exams and vision tests, glasses or contact lens prescriptions, and treatments for common eye conditions.

An optician is a technician who mainly dispenses glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses based on the prescriptions provided by your optometrist or ophthalmologist. They are also trained to repair or adjust your eyewear to ensure a comfortable fit.

If you’re looking for a local optician or optometrist in Kitsilano, Vancouver, book an eye exam or a store visit with us online.

Your full eye exam typically includes a series of tests for our optometrists to determine your eye health:

• Refractive issues: nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism, or presbyopia
• Overall perception: colour vision, depth perception, and eye coordination
• Assessment of vision loss: “lazy eye” (amblyopia), glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, and keratoconus
• Assessment of other health conditions: vascular diseases, neurological diseases, inflammatory diseases, and certain cancers

A routine eye exam every one to two years can help detect and prevent early signs of vision or overall health issues.

Prior to your eye exam or routine eye checkup appointment with our optometrists, here’s a checklist for what to bring:

• A list of any medications that you currently use
• All pairs of glasses that you currently use
• If you are a contact lens wearer, please wear your glasses to the appointment (if available), and bring your contact lens boxes/foils
• Your provincial health card

Depending on your optometrist assessment, contact lenses may be a good fit if you have nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia. Since contacts are medical devices and they come in different shapes, sizes, and materials, it’s best to see what your eye doctor recommends. Book an eye exam today for a valid contact lens prescription and initial contact lens fitting.

Depending on your optometrist assessment, toric contact lenses may be a good fit if you have astigmatism. These lenses are designed with the proper shape and prescription power to correct blurry vision caused by astigmatism and allow for more object focus, which can’t be addressed by regular contacts. Book an eye exam today for a valid contact lens prescription and initial contact lens fitting.

A full eye exam is a thorough assessment of your vision quality and eye health. If you want to wear contact lenses for the first time or if you need a new prescription, you’ll need a contact lens exam.

It includes a contact lens fitting to ensure ideal measurements for the best lens fit. If you need a new glasses prescription, a full eye exam is sufficient. Learn about the differences between contact lens and glasses prescriptions
